CONDITIONS TO PARTICIPATE IN THE PROGRAMME:

The Challenge aims to attract young entrepreneurs that already have a fresh and innovative idea to the water and sanitation sector. 

Participants met the following requirements:

  • Apply as a team of 3 to 5 people (already formed at the time of registration).
  • Most team members must be between 18 and 30 years old, including the team representative.
  • Be citizens and residents of South Africa
  • Have access to computers and a good internet connection.
  • Have an idea for an innovative solution to a water, sanitation or waste management problem and be able to show progress in its validation (prototype, business model, etc.)
  • Have the intention to transform the idea into a social enterprise

 

Women were especially encouraged to apply and be team representatives.

 

  • Have an identified vulnerable community (urban or rural) for a potential pilot. Have access to relevant stakeholders in the area, such as community members and authorities.
  • Be fully available between Friday, July 21st, and Sunday, July 23rd, to participate in the online event
  • If selected, participate in a brief (30-minute) technical presentation session of the platform on July 13th. Teams that do not participate in this session will not be able to participate in the event.
  • If chosen as winners, have availability for two members of the team to travel to a face-to-face bootcamp from September 8th to 12th in Cape Town. All costs covered except the transport from your home to the airport and back.

If you met the participation requirements and wished to participate in the programme, you surely filled out the application form.
There was a selection process, so the mere submission of the application did not guarantee your participation in the programme. The selected teams were announced on July 10th, 2023.
